Andrew Garfield is an LA-born, England-raised 28 year-old actor who is currently playing his dream role of Spider-Man on the big screen. But there are more things to him than just a butt that looks good in tights and a big mop of hair. Here’s what you should know about him.
He started pursuing acting as a career at the age of 16, encouraged by a teacher. At 18, he enrolled at the prestigious Central School of Speech and Drama, in London, where he graduated in 2004. Since then he has taken part in several plays (he had his Broadway debut earlier this year with the Tony award-winning revival of Death of a Salesman, for which he received a nomination for best actor in a featured role) and has won awards for his acting both in theater and television — most notably a BAFTA award for his portrayal of a child murderer in the drama Boy A; he was also nominated for a Golden Globe for his breakthrough role as Facebook’s co-founder Eduardo Saverin in The Social Network, which was described in The New York Times as a once-in-a-generation movie. Has also appeared in popular British TV shows, such as Doctor Who, playing opposite David Tennant and Freema Agyeman. He has worked with some of the best professionals in the business, from Heath Ledger to Martin Sheen and David Fincher and all of them, without exception, have only great things to say about him, about how talented he is and how much he dedicates himself to the job.
On a more personal level (because we all like to know these things), his favorite band is Arcade Fire, he loves surfing, he is in fact dating Emma Stone, but doesn’t like to talk about his personal life and is wary of the concept of “celebrity”. He’s also allergic to all kinds of nuts.
He is one of the most talented actor of his generation, and all of his movies are worth watching, so if you get a chance, I’d advise you to do so. To help you with that, here’s a list of everything he’s been in, chronologically, and where to watch it. Come for the Spandex, stay for the acting!
